Kansas City may not have Broadway (well, we do have a Broadway, just not the Broadway), but we do have the New Theatre, a dinner theatre whose taste in performers is excellent.
We went to see Funny Girl last night, and Farah Alvin's and Kaleo Griffith's performances were well worth watching. Barbra Streisand, of course, defined the Funny Girl songs, and when I heard them, I'm transported back to when they played on the radio during the production's heyday. Ms. Alvin's performance underscored the definition, which is probably all anyone can do.
During the performance I had only one 'look around moment' when the stage action lost me and I glanced around at what the other patrons were up to. For me, only a single 'look around moment' is high praise. While Ms. Alvin was on the stage, I had no 'look around moments.'
